Epley Enterprises Inc. was founded as Economy Bit Company by Kenneth R. Epley in San Angelo, Texas in 1963. Mr. Epley sold this plant to a larger company for a period and worked as President of their drilling manufacturing division, overseeing operations in plants in the US, Australia and Canada. When parent company Baker International decided to focus entirely on the oil industry, Mr. Epley seized this opportunity to take back the manufacturing of hard rock drilling products and arranged to purchase this production from Baker. The San Angelo plant was the rechristened Epley Enterprises in 1978. Mr. Epley recognized early that a commitment to quality was the key to enduring success against cheap overseas manufacturers and large scale mass producers. Constantly employing the latest standards in technology, materials, and workmanship has been the Epley Enterprises philosophy from day one. In 1989, Ken’s son Michael joined the company. Michael started in purchasing, then worked in accounting, as shop foreman, sales manager, Vice President of Operations and took the reins upon Ken’s retirement in 1999. Together, the two oversaw the creation and development of the Rockbuster (a unique face design that offers literally the best of all prior designs) and the Titan series of hammers, featuring the heaviest pistons in the business. Sadly, Ken Epley passed away in 2002. The bottom line for Epley remains the same...the highest grade heat treated steel alloys available, working by the best engineers, draftsmen, and skilled machinists via the latest technology, resulting in the finest down-hole percussion hammers and bits available anywhere. |
